A Summer Baseball Game with Small Group

I have always believed that the true essence of summer can be found at a baseball game. Cracker jacks, funnel cakes, cold beer, hot dogs and ice cream abound. Looking through the stadium you can see baseball gloves stretched out and up, with kids hoping and praying for a foul ball to come their way so they can snatch it out of the air. The sounds and smells are magical. Hearing the crack of the bat and vendors yelling “COLD BEER HERE!” (in that special, loud voice) up and down the steps are just a couple of the reasons I love going to baseball games.

It was so great to share this experience with my fellow 12Stone Church small group members yesterday, July 15, 2011. We have all become very close and  getting to spend some time together and have fun was a wonderful way to spend a Friday night.

A couple of months ago our small group leaders, Christy and Matthew Martin, told us our group won a set of free tickets to a Gwinnett Braves game because of everything we’re doing and the relationships we have formed. Christy and Matthew were asked to explain why they love their small group and based on their response, our group was chosen to win! We are all very proud of our group and it was great to hear that others were inspired by what we are doing!

The evening started off with dinner at Taco Mac. We enjoyed food and great conversation then headed over to the game at Coolray Field. At the game we met up with the rest of our group and settled into our seats.

We all enjoyed watching the game, socializing with one another, and playing with the kiddies. From the first pitch to the last run that won the game for the Gwinnett Braves, it was a beautiful night for a ball game!!!

Matthew knew how badly I wanted a group photo so he was kind enough to grab an usher and ask him to get a shot of all of us. Thank you so much Matthew! This photo made my night:

We had a great time at the game, but the very best part was ending our evening by watching the fireworks! They were wonderful and little Harrison’s face encompasses the pure joy we all experienced:

To see all the photos I took throughout the evening, check out my Facebook album.

I feel so lucky to be a part of such a wonderful group! We missed you Christy, Matt, Lindsay, Kelli and Glenn, but you were all there in spirit!

Thank you all for sharing in this night. Love y’all!

Candidly,

Kate
