This past weekend was paradise for me. I got to take a couple of days off work and unwind. I didn’t have to think about an email inbox or deadlines. I didn’t have my laptop glued to me and I didn’t miss any of it!
Travis, my sister Mandy (who had flown into Atlanta), my mom and me all drove about 6 hours Southwest through Alabama and into Florida for a little beach weekend in Santa Rosa Beach. We left last Thursday morning (August 25) and stayed through this past Sunday, August 28.
The funny thing is, we didn’t even plan on going to Santa Rosa Beach, or even Florida! We originally booked our trip in Myrtle Beach, S.C. to meet up with some family. However, Hurricane Irene threatened to hit right as we would be arriving and we didn’t want to chance it. So, Travis called and talked our hotel into giving us most of our deposit back. I then promptly booked us down in Santa Rosa Beach, a day before leaving, bargained with the travel agent to give me a last-minute discount and picked a familiar condo based on a place I stayed in last year. The place is called Gulf Place Cabanas, part of ResortQuest, which I highly recommend it if you ever consider visiting Santa Rosa Beach!
It’s funny how everything always works out like it should. God has a plan and, after the stress of thinking we may not get a vacation at all, the entire weekend was perfect. The weather was gorgeous and the water was the most beautiful shades of turquoise and blue. Some shallow areas were even clear enough to see straight through to the bottom.
Each morning we would have breakfast then walk down to the beach for a couple of hours. This was my favorite walk every morning. Check out the walkway to the beach:
But even more than the walkway, I loved the first peek of the water as we came up to the top of the steps that led down to the beach. The color of the water was breathtaking!
As with most vacations, I spent the weekend sun-bathing, reading, taking photos and dipping my toes in the water as much as I could. Mom, Mandy, Travis and I had a wonderful time enjoying some of the local restaurants, cooking together in our condo, watching movies and playing board games (the game Sorry! can get pretty intense…).
I’m already looking forward to our next trip back!!
