When people ask about my photography business, their first question is always “What type of photography?” where I explain that I shoot in natural light, mostly families and children. The next question is ALWAYS “Do you do weddings?” to which I always reply “No, too much pressure for me. Maybe someday though, we’ll see!” It turns out that “someday” came much sooner than I planned.
My good friend from junior high and high school, Theresa, contacted me and asked if I shoot weddings because she was getting married in May. When I told her “not yet” out of fear of missing that important moment or “messing them up” for a bride and groom with no way to ‘re-capture’ those moments, she was very sweet and kind and said “Ok, thank you.” I then offered to help her look into some photographers back in my hometown area of Ohio where she lives now. She was very grateful for the help. After looking into them though, she soon found that they weren’t quite the right fit for what she was wanting and the type of ceremony and reception she had planned.
Once I saw her struggle and understood what she was needing, something in my heart stirred and told me I really needed to offer to shoot her wedding. I quickly sent her a note before I changed my mind and before I knew it, we had worked out the details and I had booked a flight back to Dayton to cover her wedding and reception on May 10, 2013.
Needless to say, I am so glad I did! I was honored to be part of such a beautiful ceremony, fun reception, wonderful family and truly smitten couple! I even got to catch up with some friends while there, which is always such a blessing. I dragged my husband, Travis along, as a second shooter, just to be extra sure we captured everything. The trip also gave my daughter a couple quick days to visit with some family while we were in town.
Thank you Theresa and Scott for trusting me to capture one of the most important days of your life and for being so fun, easy-going and perfect to work with! I wish you nothing but the best!
